Date of visit: June 17, 2024

G.B. Burlotto Visit and Tasting

The wines of G.B. Burlotto are simply unlike anything else; an incredibly unique expression of terroir and the varieties from which they’re made. Year after year these wines continue to sweep us off our feet, and this past visit was yet another example of this.

G.B. Burlotto Visit

Tasting notes:

2023 Langhe Sauvignon Viridis: Very pretty and expressive; lemon pith, pears, and jasmine gently rise from the glass. The palate is vibrant and energetic, filled with juicy citrus driven flavors, and soaring acidity, which leave the palate incredibly refreshed. This finishes very clean and persistent.

G.B. Burlotto Tasting

2023 Verduno Pelaverga: Extremely pronounced and well defined aromas of fresh ground black pepper, smoke, pine, raspberries, and roses, which carries over to the palate. It’s refreshing, bright, precise, light on the palate, and as always, all around extremely enjoyable. The aromas are the most peppery iteration of G.B. Burlotto’s Pelaverga that we remember tasting. Always an amazing wine, and always a favorite of ours.

G.B. Burlotto Tasting

2022 Dolcetto d’Alba: Juicy black and red berries are beautifully married and accented by nuances of new leather. The palate is juicy and fruit forward, filled with notes of raspberries, with big but smooth tannins, which pleasantly roll off the tongue, and are backed by pleasant acidity, which keeps you coming back for more. A very elegant Dolcetto.

2022 Barbera d’Alba “Aves”: Gorgeous aromas of ripe red berries and dark fruits leap out of the glass, and are accented by notes of pine. The palate is juicy and fruit forward, filled with notes of cherries, red berries, and pine, with vibrant acidity, hints of fine tannins, and a silky mouthfeel. A very complex Barbera.

G.B. Burlotto Visit

2022 Langhe Freisa: Aromas of bubblegum, cotton candy, candied red berries, and roses, accented by hints of new leather. Floral and fruity at the same time. The palate is filled with notes of ripe red fruits, fine, but rustic, grippy tannins, with juicy acidity. Perhaps our favorite vintage of G.B. Burlotto’s Freisa that we’ve tasted so far. A standout for sure.

2020 Barolo: Exotic notes of cherries, raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb, cola, cotton candy, and bubble gum come leaping out of the glass, and carry over the the palate, which is juicy, energetic, filled with microscopic beautifully integrated tannins, and a pleasant inner sweetness. This wine is showing so stunning upon release, it makes it nearly impossible to put the glass down. One of the most approachable new vintage Barolo we’ve tasted. A stunning wine.

G.B. Burlotto Tasting

2020 Barolo Castelletto: Fruity yet rustic at the same time, with notes of wild black and red berries, pine, and very faint whispers of bubble gum, cotton candy, and candied red berries buried very deep. Today this is showing much less overt than the Barolo classico. It’s richer in style, and filled with fine grained tannins, lively acidity, and has a smooth mouthfeel.

G.B. Burlotto Visit

2020 Barolo Monvigliero: Bubblegum, smoke, candied red fruits, rhubarb, and a hint of new leather. The mouthfeel is incredible; light and silky smooth, with supple tannins, and bright acidity. As always this wine is impossible to put down, and is so enjoyable immediately upon release, but also possesses excellent cellaring potential. Pure magic, and unlike any other wine. Wow!

Thank You
